Currency, Cards and Cash
The official currency is the Mauritian Rupee, commonly shown as MUR or Rs. International payment cards are widely accepted in hotels, supermarkets, shopping centres, restaurants, petrol stations and many tourism businesses. Keep your card issuer informed of your travel dates and carry a small cash reserve for arrival-day expenses.
It is still sensible to carry some local cash for markets, street-food vendors, small cafรฉs, bus fares, parking and independent shops.

ATMs are widely available in towns and tourist regions.
Notify Your Bank
This can reduce the risk of overseas transactions being blocked.
