Can I drive a car with my national license in Mauritius?
Yes. You are allowed to drive a car in Mauritius with your regular domestic license for a maximum period of one month. If you need a driving license for more than 4 weeks, you can contact the Traffic Branch to request an extension or apply for a local driving license.
Do I need an international driving license?
To drive a car in Mauritius, an international driving license is recommended but not mandatory.
Do road signs in Mauritius differ from my country?
Are roads free to use in Mauritius?
Yes, absolutely free to use. The only road toll on the island is at the SSR International Airport where you have to pay for parking for around 1 euro per hour.
What is the quality of roads in Mauritius?
Mauritius has a modern road network of around 2,500 kilometres. Most of the roads are in good shape although we recommend a little more attention to inner roads in towns and villages.
What is the minimum age to drive a car in Mauritius?
As per local regulations, a driving license can be obtained at the age of 18. However, like most car rental companies in Mauritius, EasyCab requires a minimum driver age of 21 years.
What numbers can I contact in case of emergency?
Does Uber work in Mauritius?
No. There are no platforms such as Uber in Mauritius. However, for such a small island, a rental car or even airport transfer service might be better suited.
